Community Drug Education

Feedback From Participants

Our community drug education programmes are designed to meet the needs of local communities

We  aim to provide:

  • Informative  drug and alcohol education
  • Explore attitudes and opinions
  • Clarify current drug and alcohol legislation
  • Provide harm reducation Information
  • Signposts to local drug and alcohol treatment Services

All of the above contribute to supporting  local community members  to make informed descision when responding to drug and alcohol related concerns and available support.

Young People , Schools and Youth Settings

We aim to develop a workshops based on communicating and engaging with young people about their understanding of drug and alcohol related issues. The main  focus will be to  to give young people a voice and opportunity to express themselves

We use a harm reduction model which is a public health approach to encourage young people to say how drugs relate to them in society. We use a number of creative ways to raise the issue which is both age and material appropriate.

  • Video Projects "Developing Multi-Media Skills"
  • Game Shows "Fun and interactive"
  • Quizzes "Dispelling Myths and Providing Facts"
  • Replica Drugs "What to watch out for"
  • Drama Projects " Developing Self-Esteem"
  • Guest Speakers "The real deal ex-drug users sharing their experience"
  • Peer Education Programmes "An increasingly popular technique for communicating about drugs"
  • Research Projects "exploring public opinions"

We can arrange a number of sessions which we would recommend for an effective programme to be run. Although we can arrange a one off session we would suggest a follow up evaluation .

   Peer Education Programmes

Parent and carer's peer education programmes is usually funded by the local Drug and Alcohol Action Team and designed to provide a community based teaching and learning resource for local families and carer's. The Progamme is run over seven weeks and covers a range of topics such as:

  • Drug and Alcohol Awareness
  • Current Drug and Alcohol Legislation
  • Discussing substance misuse
  • Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services Provision
  • Treatment Service Visit
  • Sharing knowledge and Information
  • Evaluation and Cerfificates

The overall aim of the programme is to improve education and communication in our communities around the use, treatment and health implications of drug and alcohol use.

As part of local strengthening family programmes we also provide  one off sessions as part of  wider  Parenting Programmes
