Introduction to Drugs Awareness

Benefits of attending

This training aims to give participants a good basic knowledge of substance use and misuse. The course is also designed to provide a greater understanding of drugs and alcohol related concerns.  It will be beneficial to anyone working with people affected or experiencing drug or alcohol related problems.

  •         Physiological and psychological effects of drugs
  •         Drug and alcohol related harm
  •         Initial assessments
  •         Support and treatment services for drug users locally and nationally 

What are the learning outcomes

By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Understand and define the terms drug use and misuse and related concerns            
  • To explore a range of reasons and  identification of  vulnerable groups associated with drug use/misuse          
  • To gain an understanding of the physical, physiological and social harms associated with drug use/misuse   
  • To develop an awareness of treatment intervention models and assessment processes

The units above relate to the Drugs and Alcohol National Occupational Standards which specify the standards of performance that people in the drugs and alcohol field should be working to.
